This is show #90, The Decade’s Best Blues!

Welcome back, my friends! This is your blues DJ Dave Harrison coming at you from the blues filled studio in the Star City of Virginia… Well, this show is a great one and will be a little different. This show is highlighting a number of the songs featured on a critic’s poll conducted by the great blues magazine, Blues Revue, that selected “The Decade’s Best Blues, 25 Great Albums That Defined The Past 10 Years.”

Well, I started off the show with The Mannish Boys playing their tune “Something’s Wrong” off of the 23rd ranked Delta Groove Music CD called Lowdown Feelin’. I then followed up with their great Howlin’ Wolf tune, “Chocolate Drop.”

So, who else is on the list of the best 25 CDs? Well, I can’t play them all in an hour, but we’ll hear 19th ranked Watermelon Slim & the Workers playing “Hard Times” off their self-titled Northern Blues Music CD. Corey Harris & Henry Butler follow up ranked 18th with “If You Let A Man Kick You Once” that was on the Alligator Records CD, Vu-Du Menz. Tommy Castro gets a little Coco Montoya help on his tune “A Good Man Is Hard To Find” from his 17th ranked Blind Pig Records CD, Painkiller. At number 16, is Nick Moss & the Flip Tops cranking out two tunes, “You Make Me So Angry” and “Fill ‘Er Up” from their Blue Bella Records offering called Play It ‘Til Tomorrow. We then are treated with The Holmes Brothers (ranked 13th) with “We Meet, We Part, We Remember” from the Alligator Records CD, Simple Truths.Shaking the house at number 11 is Lil’ Ed & the Blues Imperials playing “Tired of Crying” off the Alligator Records CD, Rattleshake. We then journey all the way to number 5 with the beautiful Koko Taylor belting out two great songs, “Gonna Buy Me A Mule” and “Piece of Man” from the Alligator Old School CD. We wrap up the show with two tunes from Otis Taylor’s NorthernBlues Music CD ranked number 3, White African. We’re treated to “Rain So Hard” and “My Soul’s in Louisiana.”

Special thanks to Blues Revue Magazine, The World’s Blues Magazine for such a great Critic’s Poll! It’s nearly impossible to select a single song or two to represent such great work that fill all of these CDs. Your best bet? Go out to the BluzNdaBlood web site to find hyperlinks to buy ALL of this great music and see for your self! And if you’re not a current subscriber to Blues Revue, subscribe today!
